The Certificate IV in Hazardous Areas – Electrical provides licensed electricians with a pathway to a nationally recognised qualification relevant to their work in explosive atmospheres.
This qualification provides competencies related to the selection, installation, maintenance, inspection and testing of explosion-protected equipment and systems for control and monitoring of plant and processes.

5 Days intensive face-to-face training, plus a self-paced Recognition of Prior Learning process.

Competency Training will hold an initial deposit of $1,500. The remaining balance of the course fee is to be paid in the following instalment upon the course commencement date as stipulated within this course booking confirmation and your invoice.

Course Outline

This qualification provides competencies related to the selection, installation, maintenance, inspection and testing of explosion-protected equipment and systems for control and monitoring of plant and processes.

Certificate IV in Hazardous areas – Electrical

The Installation and Maintenance of Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas course covers the following topics in detail:

  1.  Legal requirements and Australian Standards
  2. Principles of hazardous areas classification
  3. Explosion-protection techniques
  4. Equipment installation requirements
  5. Procedures for breakdowns and maintenance
  6. Testing procedures
  7. Visual inspection
  8. Detailed inspection
  9. Record keeping
  10. Access and permit procedures for use in hazardous areas

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING KIT:

This kit is provided on confirmation of enrolment and provides guidance for the process of gathering evidence in support of the assessment application. The kit contains questions and recommended documents for submission to provide the assessor with sufficient evidence to determine whether the student is competent in these units.

COMPLETION OF THE QUALIFICATION:

This qualification is made up of 6 core units and a range of elective units of competency.

In order to complete the full Certificate IV in Hazardous Areas – Electrical qualification, you will need to:

  1. Provide Competency Training with a copy of your UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology or equivalent.
  2. Successfully complete a 5-day Installation and Maintenance of Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas course (8 units).
  3. Successfully complete the Recognition of Prior Learning kit to demonstrate competency in 4 core units.

All components must be successfully completed before the qualification can be issued.

Block training component:

UEEHA0004 Enter a classified hazardous area to undertake work related to electrical equipment

UEEHA0022 Determine the explosion-protection requirements to meet a specified classified hazardous area

UEEHA0038 Conduct visual and close inspection of electrical installations for hazardous areas

UEEHA0020 Conduct detailed inspection of electrical installations for hazardous areas

UEEHA0025 Install explosion-protected equipment and associated apparatus and wiring systems

UEEHA0026 Maintain equipment associated with hazardous areas

UEECD0011 Comply with scheduled and preventative maintenance program processes

UEECO0002 Maintain documentation

Prerequisites

The entry requirement for this qualification is:

Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician

or

a current ‘Unrestricted Electricians Licence’ or its equivalent issued in an Australian state or territory.

This qualification is designed for electrical workers involved with installation, maintenance testing and inspections of electrical equipment in hazardous areas. It enables personnel to gain a nationally recognised qualification that is relevant to their workplace requirements.

Course Pathway Options

REFRESHER TRAINING

In accordance with the AS/NZS 60079.14 requirement for continuing education, Competency Training recommends that the EEHA Installation and Maintenance competencies are refreshed every 2-3 years.

HAZARDOUS AREAS CLASSIFICATION AND DESIGN

This course provides a Licensed Electrician with the necessary prerequisites to attend Competency Training’s Hazardous Areas Classification and Design Course and attain all units of competency.
