Course Overview

This Installation and Maintenance of Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas Refresher course provides nationally recognised refresher training that meets the competency requirements of AS/NZS 4761 Competencies for working with electrical equipment for hazardous areas (EEHA).

 This refresher course also meets the requirements for continuing education to be undertaken on a regular basis, as stated in AS/NZS 60079.14 Explosive atmospheres – Electrical installations design, selection and erection and 60079.17 Explosive atmospheres – Electrical installations inspection and maintenance.

The Hazardous Areas Refresher course provides a review of the following topics:

  6. Explosion-protection techniques, including:

Practical inspection and testing activities are conducted on training boards that have been developed in conjunction with NHP Electrical Engineering Products, a leading supplier of electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres.

IECEX UNITS OF COMPETENCE

Ex 000 Basic knowledge and awareness to enter a site that includes a classified hazardous area
Ex 001 Apply basic principles of protection in explosive atmospheres
Ex 003 Install explosion-protected equipment and wiring systems
Ex 004 Maintain equipment in explosive atmospheres
Ex 006 Test electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres
Ex 007 Perform visual and close inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres
Ex 008 Perform detailed inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres

  • UEE30811 Certificate III in Electrotechnology, UEE31211 Certificate III in Instrumentation and Control, or equivalent.
  • Evidence of prior attainment of the units of this course.

Participants who meet all prerequisites for the course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for all nationally recognised units of competency which they have previously attained, as well as a Statement of Completion for the corresponding IECEx units.

Students who do not meet these prerequisites will be issued a Certificate of Attendance for the course.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is designed to update and refresh electrical workers, technicians and engineers who have already completed hazardous areas training and who are involved with installing and maintaining electrical equipment in hazardous areas.

REFRESHER TRAINING

In accordance with the AS/NZS 60079.14 requirement for continuing education, Competency Training recommends that this hazardous area training course is refreshed every 2-3 years.

HAZARDOUS AREAS CLASSIFICATION AND DESIGN

This course provides a Licensed Electrician with the necessary prerequisites to attend Competency Training’s Hazardous Areas Classification and Design Course and attain all units of competency.

UEE42611 CERTIFICATE IV IN HAZARDOUS AREAS – ELECTRICAL

On successful attainment of the course units, participants who hold a UEE30811 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (or unrestricted electrical licence) can enrol in the UEE42611 Certificate IV in Hazardous Areas – Electrical. with Competency Training, and complete the remaining four core units by Recognition of Prior Learning. Participants are provided with a Recognition of Prior Learning Kit, to be completed in their own time, with the assistance of our knowledgeable trainers and assessors.
