Overview

This refresher course provides participants with up-to-date information on legislation and a review of important safety and procedural details relating to high voltage switching operations. Attending regular refresher training helps to meet industry best practice standards, and in WA, this will also ensure compliance with the Guidelines for the safe management of high voltage installations.

Students have the option to choose between Blended Training (Partly delivered online) or Complete Face-to-Face Training delivered at one of Competency Training’s national training centres, or at a client’s facility.

Course Outline

This refresher course provides a review of the following topics:

  1. Legislation and standards
  2. Electrical hazards, risk management and safety procedures
  3. Writing and checking switching programs
  4. Permit procedures

This course involves practical switching activities to a switching program, which includes:

  1. Remote switching operations using our customised interactive network diagrams
  2. Manual switching activities in our high voltage switching training facilities

If you cannot meet this requirement students will be required to undertake the HVSO four-day course.

  • Evidence of current Statement of Attainment must be produced.
  • Relevant electrical trade qualification, if applicable.

Participants who meet pre-requisites for the course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for all nationally recognised units of competency which they have previously attained.

Students who do not meet these prerequisites will be issued a Certificate of Completion for the course.

Who should attend?

This High Voltage Switching Operations – Refresher course is intended as a periodic refresher for electrical workers who have previously completed equivalent training.

Evidence of prior training is required to be awarded a Statement of Attainment for nationally recognised units of competency.

Course Pathway Options

REFRESHER TRAINING

In accordance with industry Best Practice, Competency Training recommends that this high voltage training course be refreshed every 2-3 years.

In WA, this will also ensure compliance with the Guidelines for the safe management of high voltage installations, which states:

HV switching operators are required to be assessed as being competent, and maintain currency, in units of switching contained in Industry Training Packages delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) approved to deliver Nationally Recognised Training within the Australian Qualifications Framework.
