Welding Electrical Safety course is now available!

Did you know that in the past three years, the WA Department of Mines and Petroleum has received notification of more than 160 electric shock incidents during welding, an average of more than one incident every week? (Reference Mines Safety Bulletin 117, dated Dec 22, 2014)

Competency Training, in conjunction with the Welding Technology Institute of Australia (WTIA), has developed a course to raise awareness among personnel. The course is based on WTIA technical notes 7 (Health and Safety in Welding) and 22 (Welding Electrical Safety) and covers topics including:

  • Legislation and Australian Standards,
  • Work practices and equipment, including PPE,
  • Insulating materials,
  • Voltage reduction devices (VRDs), and
  • Case studies of welding incidents
