Installation and Maintenance EEHA Refresher

Overview

This Installation and Maintenance of Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas Refresher course provides nationally recognised refresher training that meets the on-going competency requirements of the Australian Standards. Specifically, AS/NZS 60079.14 clause 4.5 Competence of personnel, in part, Appropriate continuing education or training shall be undertaken by personnel on a regular basis.

Please note, you must already hold the UEEHA units of competency to be eligible for refresher training. UEENEE holders must complete the 5 day course.

Course Outline

The Hazardous Areas Refresher course provides a high level review of the following topics:

  1. Legislative requirements
  2. Current Australian Standards AS/NZS 60079.14:2022 and 60079.17
  3. Understanding of Area Classification
  4. Principles of explosion protection, including selection and installation
  5. Undertaking maintenance and electrical testing
  6. Conducting inspections
  7. Record keeping, document management, and Verification Dossiers

Outcomes

Units of Competency
  • Basic knowledge and awareness to enter a site that includes a classified hazardous area
  • Apply basic principles of protection in explosive atmospheres
  • Install explosion-protected equipment and wiring systems
  • Maintain equipment in explosive atmospheres
  • Test electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres
  • Perform visual and close inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres
  • Perform detailed inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres

Prerequisites

  • Evidence of prior attainment of UEEHA units of competency from UEE42620 or UEE42622

Course Pathway Options

In accordance with the AS/NZS 60079.14 requirement for continuing education, Competency Training recommends that this hazardous area training course is refreshed every 2-3 years.

UEE42622 CERTIFICATE IV IN HAZARDOUS AREAS – ELECTRICAL

On successful attainment of the course units, participants who hold a UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (or unrestricted electrical licence) can enrol in the UEE42611 Certificate IV in Hazardous Areas – Electrical. with Competency Training, and complete the remaining four core units by Recognition of Prior Learning. Participants are provided with a Recognition of Prior Learning Kit, to be completed in their own time, with the assistance of our knowledgeable trainers and assessors.
