Changes to Australian Standards

POSTED: June 28 2012

There have been some changes made to Australian Standards

Recent changes have taken place in Australian standards, particularly in regards to AS/NZS 3000 and Hazardous Area standards.

As/NZS 3000 is being amended and is currently out for public comment from interested parties. These are people or companies who may be affected by changes made. It should be ratified and published by September 2012.

Hazardous Area standards AS/NZS 60079.12 and AS/NZS 60079.20 are now redundant and have been merged into AS/NZS 60079.20.1. There are a couple of notable changes namely the indexing method is no longer alphabetical as in AS/NZS 60079.20.

A change with reference to Ethanol is noted also in this standard. Previously, Ethanol was designated a material group of IIA in AS/NZS 60079.12 and AS/NZS 60079.20. In AS/NZS 60079.20.1 it is given a material group designation of IIB. Also Diesel is grouped with Kerosene, so to stay on track, still use the MSDS as the definitive document for material properties.
